The long absence was because of a mammoth story for Tehelka, easily the biggest I've ever written. For three days, as I wrote the piece, English felt like a foreign language. And then, faced with a Blogger 'compose' window, every inhibition disappeared. Perhaps it's because MS Word looks intimidating with that large white space to fill. Perhaps writing gigantic stories in the Blogger window will help. Things seem to just be, you know, more friendly.

Does everybody but me write their posts directly on the Blogger page? No saving of Word files? How does that even work?
Looking forward to reading the story and glad you have you back..!
WordPad's not too bad either. The giant white space isn't as intimidating as Word, and it takes up a lot less Ram (which allows far more multitasking on my laptop :) )
Look forward to the piece.
I seriously can't write on Word. You feel like you have to be a serious writer there.
Here's how it works, Jai. Step one: get a reliable computer (a mac). Step two: click 'save draft' often.
Pratyush and Salil: I'll put up the story when it's out in the following week's issue. And thanks for the WordPad tip. I tried it out and loved it.
Excellent, love it! 106 peugeot xs
