Plus one

When there's a lot going on in my real world life, blogging suffers first. The reason for this particular dry run is that I'm getting married. Normally there would be a lot to write about during a wedding, but my deep involvement in this has given me no time to consider or feel inclined toward writing anything either thoughtful or ordinary. Having said that, it is a new experience full of unexpected turns and discoveries. Most disorienting is the realisation that like with the back injury a month ago, contradictory advice comes from everywhere about all sorts of things. But we go on - sigh! - boy do we go on, keeping our sense of humour intact and hopefully our sense too.

I read the first few sentences, couldnt believe what I read, and checked the date. It was four days later. Anyway, I am sorry to hear that. Good luck anyway.

Rahul, you're getting married? What a surprise - we never knew of this. Congrats, buddy!

But - and sorry for bringing this up in a public forum, but as you know it's so hard to reach you on your mobile phone these days - what will happen now of Aradhana, Roopa, Tania, Sulochana, Nirupama B., Devika, Kamla, Vimla and Salma? Their hearts are broken forever.

Rahul, this is Tania.
I'm shattered.
Why?
Was it the warts?

It might have been, Tania. Or it could have been your preference for Russian literature, Iranian directors, and quite possibly anything published by Harvill. Have you met my friend Chandrahas Choudhury?

Everyone else, thank you!

First Anon, what are you sorry to hear?

Tania, it's quite clear from Rahul's testimony that you're responsible for your own woes. You never paid any attention to the things that Rahul liked best, preferring always to speak of the films of Majid Majidi and the opuses of the Russian socialist novelists. Dullness and heavy despair drove Rahul out of your arms.

But it may not be too late yet. Turn up at Rahul's place this evening with several large orders of hamburgers and fries, some Anthony Lane and William Dalrymple books, a volume of soppy love poems, and a large heart-shaped balloon. If that won't make him change his mind, then I'm afraid it's all over.

Congrats, Rahul! Wish you and your wife a wonderful life together. Hmm, I've been following you through your blog, so this is almost a personal occasion.

I must, however, tell you, that when I saw the title of your post, I thought you were already married and were writing this about having a kid.:).
